Password Guidelines

Your user ID (BA-Number), together with your password, is used to log in to the IT Service’s central data services and allows you to use the university’s IT services. When you log in, the system verifies your identity and checks your authorization to use the respective data service.

Note regarding too many failed login attempts

If there are too many failed login attempts, the user account will be automatically locked for one hour for security reasons. Once the lock has expired, you can log in again using the correct password.

Handling Passwords

If your password falls into the wrong hands, it could be misused in your name, causing significant harm to the university, students, and university staff. If your password has been disclosed to others or might be known to others, please change it immediately.

Security measures regarding passwords

Keep your password safe, do not share it with anyone, and choose one that cannot be easily guessed. This is also a key requirement set forth by the Bavarian Data Protection Commissioner regarding passwords.

If you enter the wrong password too many times in a row for any of these services, your BA number will be automatically locked for a short period of time for security reasons.

Guidelines for creating passwords

  • Please do not use trivial or easily guessed passwords.
  • Please do not use first names as passwords!
  • The password must be at least 12 characters long!
