The Radboud University Nijmegen is a partner institution of the double degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business Administration at the University of Bamberg. Within the programme, students spend one academic year at the partner university and obtain, in addition to the degree from their home institution, a Dutch Master’s degree.
The double degree programme combines the Bamberg Master’s programme:
- MSc European Economic Studies
with several English-taught Master’s specialisations at Radboud University Nijmegen:
- MSc Economics: Economic Behaviour and Policy
- MSc Economics: International Economics and Development
- MSc Economics: International Political Economy
The programmes combine economics education with international perspectives on economic policy, international economics, development and political economy.

Academic Focus
The programme combines economics education with international perspectives on economics, economic policy and international economic relations. Depending on the chosen specialisation, students may focus particularly on:
- Economic Behaviour and Policy
- International Economics and Development
- International Political Economy
Students take courses particularly in the areas of:
- International Economics
- Economic Policy
- Development Economics
- Political Economy
- Behavioural Economics
For the specialisation International Political Economy, additional background knowledge in political science is required.
Programme Structure
Students spend the first academic year at their home university and the second academic year at the partner university. All coursework and examinations are mutually recognised and fully integrated into the respective degree programmes.
Individual study plans are based on the agreed curriculum structures and a Learning Agreement prepared jointly with the programme coordinators.
Degrees Awarded
Upon successful completion, students receive:
- the Master of Science in European Economic Studies from the University of Bamberg
- and the MSc Economics from Radboud University Nijmegen
International Perspective & Career Opportunities
The programme strengthens international expertise in economics and economic policy and prepares students for careers in international organisations, public institutions, companies and research institutions.

Applications for the double degree programme are submitted as part of the application process for the MSc European Economic Studies at the University of Bamberg. General information on admission requirements, application procedures and deadlines can be found on the central application page for the double degree programmes.
In addition to the regular application documents, applicants for the double degree programme must submit:
- a letter of motivation in German,
- proof of English language proficiency according to the admission requirements of Radboud University Nijmegen.
For the specialisations Economic Behaviour and Policy and International Economics and Development, students must demonstrate prior knowledge in:
- International Economics
- Economic Policy
For the specialisation International Political Economy, applicants must additionally provide proof of at least 18 ECTS in Political Science.
English language proficiency must fulfil the admission requirements of Radboud University Nijmegen. Accepted certificates include TOEFL, IELTS and equivalent language certificates. Current requirements and further information can be found on the website of Radboud University Nijmegen.
Please note that applications are only possible for the winter semester. Applications can only be submitted before enrolment in the Master’s programme; students who are already enrolled cannot be considered.
Admission to the second year of study
Students who begin the double degree programme at Radboud University Nijmegen are nominated by their home university for the study period in Bamberg. After nomination, students receive all relevant information regarding application, enrolment and study organisation directly from the University of Bamberg.
Unlike regular exchange students, participants in the double degree programme are formally enrolled at the University of Bamberg. Enrolment is completed through the university’s online application system and students are supported throughout the process by the programme coordinators.
In addition, the International Office of the University of Bamberg supports international students in preparing their stay, particularly with regard to accommodation, orientation and language courses.
At the beginning of the semester, an orientation event for double degree students is organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business Administration.

Study programme for all DD students
The double degree programme comprises four semesters. Students spend the first academic year at their home university and the second academic year at the partner university. During their stay abroad, students remain enrolled at their home institution.
All coursework and examinations completed within the programme are mutually recognised by both universities and fully integrated into the respective degree programmes.
