How Do I Apply?

Online Application

All prospective students with foreign citizenship and a university entrance qualification (certificates) from abroad must apply via the online application portal of the University of Bamberg.

Important! Starting in the winter semester 2026/27, an application fee of € 60 will be charged for persons with citizenship outside the EU/EEA.

International Office Application Deadlines

Please note that your completed application, including all documents, must be submitted in the application portal within the following periods:

  • Winter semester: mid-May to 15 July
  • Summer semester: mid-November to 15 January

Applications prior to these dates will not be accepted or reviewed.

Special case for EU/EEA citizens:
For non-restricted undergraduate courses of study (bachelor's, teacher training), you can apply until the end of the enrolment period.

Application Check List

1. Personal Documents

The following documents must be uploaded to the application portal:

  • CV: Complete, until the time of your application.
  • Passport/identity card: Only the data including name & date of birth (translation required if data are not in German or English).
  • Power of authority: Only required when a third party would like to receive information about the status of your application.
    Example:Power of authority for study applications ¨C I (name, date of birth, place of birth) hereby authorise (name, date of birth, place of birth of the representative) to represent me in all matters regarding my study application at the University of Bamberg. This power of authority is valid until it is revoked in writing. Place, date, your signature.

2. Academic Certificates & Proof of German Proficiency

Upload these certificates as original documents and official translations:

  • Translations: Documents in English do not require a translation. Documents in all other languages must be officially translated (database of officially authorised translators in Germany).
  • School leaving certificate: Certificate and list of school leaving grades
  • Studies abroad: University entrance examination (if applicable), lists of grades for all semesters and university degree certificate (e.g. Bachelor¡¯s certificate)
  • If you studied at a German university: Study certificates of all semesters
  • Proof of German language proficiency: Certificate according to the requirements (e.g. B2/C1)
  • Pre-university examination (FSP) from a Studienkolleg (if taken): Certificate of passing the pre-university examination, including the individual grades. The FSP is considered a foreign university entrance qualification!

3. Country-Specific & Special Requirements

  • APS Certificate: Mandatory for certificates from China, India, and Vietnam
    • Note: An official APS Post-Certification (Nachzertifizierung) is required if you change your subject after completing a Bachelor's degree.
    • TestAS: Only required if your APS certificate states that you took part in TestAS.
  • Change of name: Proof of change-of-name if the name on the certificates differs (e.g. marriage certificate)
